World of Warplanes Review
World of Warplanes is a free to play online plane combat video game you can play on the PC. Unlike other free games, this is not a small browser-based title so you will need a somewhat meatier computer in order to run this game efficiently. The minimum and maximum RAM you need is 2GB and 4GB respectively. The download sizes range from 19GB to 30GB. Again, check your specs first before you start downloading this game.
If you are able to download World of Warplanes, you are going to have a lot of fun with it. There aren’t many free to play video games that focus on aerial warfare so that’s a cool thing. Come to think of it, not many recent video games in general allow you to pilot a plane from the skies like this.
People that are interested in World War I and World War II are going to love playing World of Warplanes as most of the planes from that era are in this game. You won’t see many modern jet fighters here.
To make things more interesting, there are also different class types of planes too. There are your agile fighter planes such as the Spitfire, plus there are more heavy combat planes too. Each plane handles differently from one another which add to the realism and authenticity of the game.
Speaking of authenticity, World of Warplanes includes planes from six different nations. The countries included in the game are the Soviet Union, Germany, USA, Great Britain, Japan and China. Not only do you have different class types of planes, but you also get to choose planes from the different nations too. There are a lot of planes for you to choose from and a number of them are based on real-life aircraft, although there are a few fictional planes that have been added to balance out the gameplay.
Once you start getting to play World of Warplanes, it becomes quite daunting the first time you play it. Piloting a plane is never easy whether it be in real-life or even in a video game for that matter. The complexity of piloting a plane is always difficult and you will struggle trying to manoeuvre your plane in this game.
There is a very steep learning curve to overcome in World of Warplanes as this is not just as simple point and click shooter. Yes you can point and click to shoot, but you have to take into account where your plane it and how fast it’s travelling too. The controls are pretty good, but you will need to get used to them. This game isn’t one you will be master in one sitting that’s for sure. You can control the game either by using the keyboard, mouse or a joystick. You have a choice on how you want to play the game, which is nice to see.
A standard World of Warplanes match is two teams facing against one another with 15 planes each. At the maximum, you will see 30 planes flying around in the battlefield which is scary, yet very impressive to see at the same time. Your goal is to simply shoot down all of the enemy planes within a 15 minute time limit.
The actual dogfights in World of Warplanes are quite cool as the action is fast-paced and exciting. It can be dizzying at times, but when you master the game’s controls, it can be a very exhilarating experience. The levels are very huge and expansive as you have a lot of room to fly around.
The production values in World of Warplanes are to be commended as well. The graphics are excellent as the planes are highly detailed and the huge levels look gorgeous while you are flying around. The sound effects are impressive as well as you truly feel you are in the midst of war when you are playing it.
Overall, World of Warplanes is a very impressive game if your machine is good enough to run it efficiently. It’s worth trying if you are a fan of planes from the World War era. The game could add a few more modes in order to vary the gameplay, but the thrilling action is enough to keep you satisfied for at least a few hours per week.
