Total Domination loads pretty quickly and I had no trouble playing the game whatsoever. You can play the game insider the web browser, or you can opt to turn to a fullscreen view. The fullscreen view is the best way to play the game. This is because you will avoid clicking elsewhere on your computer like closing the whole browser down or even opening up another application. The fullscreen also provides you a clearer view of the action and the game looks better when it’s bigger too. You cannot see the buttons properly if you are to play the game on a small window.

The one thing I liked most about Total Domination is that it includes a full voice over. Your instructor has a loud army-like voice and instructs you all the time on what to do next. It’s better hearing the instructor’s voice during the tutorial and the game itself as it exudes some atmosphere. It can be monotonous sometimes playing some other games in silence where you have to read mountains of text just to get past the tutorial stage. At least with the voice over, it made the game slightly less boring to play.

Total Domination as a game itself suffers the many traps the RTS genre currently suffers from. This is the fact that it can be a very time consuming game to play if you really want to progress somewhere. Since the game can be played via Facebook, I doubt that many casual gamers will be interested in playing a game like this. If you are a fan of the RTS genre, you may have more patience to sit through this game for hours on end. For everyone else, you may be better off playing something else instead. The gameplay in Total Domination isn’t all that exciting to begin with anyway. For several minutes, you just end up constructing so many buildings it’s almost like you’re doing it real life. Buildings don’t take too long to be completed like in other RTS games, but it can be still time consuming to “play” a game like this.

Even the combat is boring as when you invade an invading city, you only see your army travel there but you don’t see the action unfold yourself. You are only greeted with a report card that tells you how many units have survived and died. It seems like a poor reward for all the hours you’ve done to build that army in the first place. It’s like your goal is to build a huge army, only to not even see them fight. The only decent thing about the game is the good graphics. All the buildings and terrain look highly detailed as do some of the units in your city. The added voice overs and sound effects also add a bit of flair to a game that doesn’t have much going for it in the first place. At least it still looks pretty though.

Overall, Total Domination is a rather disappointing RTS that has decent production values, but boring gameplay to go along with it. If you are a hardcore RTS fan, you may enjoy it more than other people. Everyone else shouldn’t bother wasting their time playing this game since it offers nothing new or exciting.
