Mission Against Terror

Mission Against Terror Mission Against Terror Review The first person shooter (FPS) is without a doubt the most popular gaming genre on the planet. This is all thanks to big blockbuster franchises such as Call of Duty and Halo just to name a few. It appears even more FPS games are on their way with the announcement of Killzone: Shadow Fall coming to the newly announced PS4 console. Consoles aren’t the only platform where people can play FPS games. FPS games were popularized on the PC first thanks to titles such as DOOM and Wolfenstein. An advantage of the PC platform is the number of free to play games that are available. Mission Against Terror is one free to play FPS that will give fans of the genre everything they would ever want from a shooting video game and more. The most unique aspect of Mission Against Terror is that it is made by an Asian developer. Most FPS games are made only in Western countries. Although the core gameplay remains the same, it’s the character models that look different than in most FPS games I’ve played. Most FPS games feature tough military guys in heavy armor. Mission Against Terror breaks this mould as you can create both men and women characters that look like they should appear in a Japanese anime more than a FPS game... After you have chosen the look for your character, you are prompted to play the tutorial. You can choose the skip the tutorial altogether if you are used to this style of game. In my opinion, the tutorial isn’t necessary to play through because the game’s controls are very similar to any other FPS game that is released for the PC. You will use the WASD keys to move around, the space bar to jump, and the mouse to aim and shoot your weapon. If you’ve played a FPS game before on your computer, chances are that you will get used to the controls in Mission Against Terror fairly quickly. Once you have completed the tutorial, you can immediately join on any game mode you see fit. Bear in mind, this game is a multiplayer only experience so you cannot play through any missions by yourself like you can with most FPS console video games. Whether you are playing against the A.I. or facing off with real players, you will have to team with up to three other players before you can even start any type of game mode. This is one of the few flaws I found in the game because not everyone will be able to join your lobby and it sometimes takes a long time to find enough players to join you. I remember choosing to play a game against the A.I. first just to see what the actual game plays like. Unfortunately, I had to wait a long time to find enough players that were interested enough to play with me. I realized that most people choose to play against real players instead so I decided to join another player’s lobby instead from then on. Mission Against Terror may look like any other FPS game, but it is its variety of game modes that separate it from all the rest. Here is a rundown of all of the different modes you can play in this game: Bomb Mode, Ghost Mode, Mummy Mode, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Dragon Emperor Mode, Occupy Mode, Terminator Mode, Snowball Mode, Bounty Mode, Hybrid Mode, PK Mode and Tank Wars. All in all, there are 13 different game modes you can play through in this game and most of them play differently from one another. The first mode I played through was Mummy Mode. This is where one team is a bunch of mummies while the other team start off as humans. The mummies’ goal is to infect all of the humans by touching them and turning them into mummies as well. The humans’ goal is to try and survive before the time runs out. It’s a unique mode, but as a human it’s hard to kill of a mummy because they have a lot of health. I remember nearly emptying my ammo on one mummy and he was still alive. If you are a human in this mode, it’s best to just runaway as it’s nearly impossible to kill a mummy. If you’re a mummy, you’re at a disadvantage too because mummies move slowly and only have a melee attack. It’s sometimes hard to infect a human when they keep running away from you avoiding your attacks all of the time. The best ways to infect humans is by finding other fellow mummies and surround them. Another favorite game mode of mine was “Tank Wars”. This is pretty much a team deathmatch but you are now playing as a tank. It’s quite unique since you don’t get to control vehicles in most other FPS games other than the Battlefield and Halo series. Snowball mode is another highlight because you are only armed with snowballs and grenades to attack enemies. It’s an interesting mode for gamers that sick of playing with guns all of the time. The core gameplay in Mission Against Terror is competent, but it won’t be the best ever FPS experience you will ever have. I found the game to feel a bit jerky sometimes and shooting your gun isn’t as smooth and satisfying as it should be. The physics feel outdated as it plays more like Counter Strike than a modern FPS video game. Not only does the gameplay feel outdated, but the graphics look old too. For a PC game that was released in 2010, Mission Against Terror looks more like a game that would be more fitting for the original Xbox console. Aside from those aforementioned flaws, Mission Against Terror is still a fun game to play if you are a fan of the FPS genre. The developer is still adding new content to the game every few months and they may even add new modes to the game in the near future too. There were only six modes that were available in the game when it first came out, but this has since increased to 13 modes now. Not to mention the game is very popular so there is a healthy online community that will keep the game alive for years to come. Mission Against Terror’s gameplay and visuals may be outdated, but the plethora of unique game modes that are included here separate it from most other FPS titles. If you loved the old Counter Strike games, you will fall in love with this game. FPS fans in general will find this game find to play if they can forgive some of its design flaws.
