Vorp
Vorp Vorp Review
Vorp is a 3D space-themed multiplayer deathmatch style of video game. Its quite a breath of fresh air playing a multiplayer deathmatch game since most free to play browser based video games are from either the MMORPG or RTS genre. So if you like action packed games that allow you to play with and against lots of other players, Vorp is the type of game for you.
Vorp is quite a visually demanding video game so be prepared for some long loading times. Im not sure if this happened with everyone, but my web browser and computer started to lag once I started booting this game up. If you own a less-than-powerful computer, its best to close all other applications first if you want to start playing this game.
Unlike with most other video games, theres not a straightforward or mandatory tutorial that you have to play through. The game instead presents to you a brief yet informative tutorial video instead which has been uploaded on Youtube. Its a very helpful video that includes a narrator and it will teach you all of the basics of this games mechanics.
After you have viewed the tutorial video, you have the option of taking the plunge and diving into a multiplayer game already, or you can practice the game all by yourself by entering through the single player practice arena. It is here where you can master the games controls and/or familiarize yourself with the games maps, environments and other items that you will encounter during the actual game.
Once you have familiarized yourself with the games controls long enough, you can head off and play the actual games multiplayer offering. Vorp is the type of game that rewards those that have played the game long enough and have levelled up. This means beginners wont have access to much content as you can only pick from three ships that are available and you cannot alter any of your weapons and so forth yet.
From my personal experience, finding other people to play the game was not as fast or smooth as I expected it to be. It might be because of the time differences, but I was waiting quite a long time before any match could begin. You cannot have AI partners filling in for your team so you will need to wait for nine other human players for any match to commence.
Unlike with most titles, you do not control the ships using the WASD keys that are usually mapped with most PC video games. You will use the directional arrow keys instead to control which direction you want your ship to travel. It can a little uncomfortable to use if youre playing the game only on a laptop, but you can get used to it after you have played the game over time.
Pressing the shift key enables you to use your thrusters in order to travel at a faster speed while the mouse buttons control your weapons. The controls felt a bit awkward at first because my ship kept rotating in a direction I did not want it to go to, but over time I got used to them.
The games premise and overall aim is fairly straightforward and simple. Each team is either part of a blue or yellow team and you will have to protect your base from the enemy. If the enemy manages to destroy your base, its game over. Make sure you destroy the enemys base first to ensure victory for your own team.
To make your job easier, you will have to kill enemy ships and collect their atoms in order to level up. Atoms you spend on allow you to upgrade both your weapons and attributes that will make you faster and stronger. You will have to drop off atoms at a place called the home depot. The home depot not only collects atoms, but its also a place where you can replenish your health/energy bar.
Taking out an enemys base is easier said than done because there are more than just ships protecting it. There are shields and turrets that are protecting the base at all times. You will have to destroy these shields and turrets first before you can attack and damage the base. Working as a team becomes a crucial part of the game because I remember wandering off to the base myself and I got killed instantly for my rookie mistake.
Once you have finished off and destroyed the base, the game round ends. You will earn currency called bang everytime you finish a match. The more kills you attain, the more bang you will earn in each and every match. Dont worry though, most gamers will earn bang after each match even though they werent the top player for that particular round. Bang can be used to spend on new and more powerful ships and technical upgrades. The more bang you obtain; you can afford to spend it on the most expensive and best ships that are available.
Vorp is a unique free to play video game and is full of fast paced action with excellent high quality graphics and audio. Being that this is a multiplayer video game, some gamers might find it hard to play since there will inevitably be better players than you out there in the world. Nevertheless, is youre skilled enough to keep up with the other players; a very enjoyable experience awaits you with Vorp.
