Odin Quest

Odin Quest Odin Quest, from developers Dragonsmeet, is a free-to-play browser-based fantasy RPG. At first glance the game looks vibrant and I was immediately thinking Soul of Guardian and Crystal Saga in terms of graphics and gameplay, which is not a bad thing. The game is meant to put you into a fantasy world and it does that. The game starts, as any RPG, by thrusting you into a town square and giving you easy quests. These early quests simply require you to speak to a couple of NPCs followed by the simple task of equipping your weapon. If you havent played an RPG before, or even if you have but havent tried a browser-based one, this will give you the chance to learn the simplicity of the controls within seconds. A pet hate of mine, is having my character auto-travel to a designated quest or enemy and for those of you who find the idea of travelling boring, you will be pleased to learn that Odin Quest is a game that has that feature. It is, after all, a browser-based game and the player-base will generally be casual and so merits this feature. If, like me, you do not want to have your character do most of the work for you then you all you need to do is left click your mouse anywhere on the screen and auto-travel will end. Battles are boring and the lack of animation was disappointing. Enemies you kill will spawn immediately upon death, but do not worry because there seems to be a lack of aggro which means you could run through them and they wont attack unless you strike first. Again, auto-travel will if you prefer even do the fighting for you. Odin Quest may be free-to-play, but if you want to improve your character drastically or simply want to customise your character you will have to pay real money to do that. The in-game shop offers you anything from potions, pets and even different skins. There are a few things that need a little work on. I am used to in-game chat channels being spammed by gold-sellers and players before, but Odin Quest may be the first time I have seen chat spammed by an in-game system. It is great that Knut caught a rare pet, but I do not need to know about it. There are also, annoyingly, quite a lot of spelling mistakes whilst chatting to NPCs. This may be as simple as a translation problem, but it is annoying enough that it distracts me during gameplay. There is nothing new or unique about Odin Quest that will bring in a flurry of new players. The game looks, feels and plays like any browser-based RPG already out there. If you are looking for something casual that you can waste the day on at work or just want to play a game that requires no thinking, where even levelling your character takes a matter of seconds then Odin Quest is for you.

Odin Quest Game Review

Odin Quest is an MMORPG that based on Nordic myth. The game is free-to-play browser based. It features fast-paced and smooth level-up, multiple classes, and dungeon exploration of different levels.

Odin Quest is a free to play MMORPG game that was made by Chinese developers Dragonsmeet. The unique aspsect of this game is that it is based on Norse Morthology so some of the characters and enemies you will encounter here will be familiar to some people.

Before you start the game, you get a chance to customize the character you want to play as. You can choose to be either a male or female character. You sadly dont have the chance to alter the appearance of your chosen character, although you do get to choose the type of class they are which has various looks to them anyway.

There are five classes in total you can choose from and they include: Warrior, Mage, Priest, Hunter and Assassin. The classes each have their own strengths and wield different sorts of weapons. With all of the formalities out of the way, you can then enter the world of Odin Quest.

Unlike some browser based video games, Odin Quest loads really fast. This is quite an impressive feat considering how detailed and colorful the graphics are in this game. The mandatory tutorial that is included here is helpful and beginners wont have a problem getting to grips of the games controls and setups.

One thing I dont like about Odin Quest is how cluttered the screen is. Menus pop up all over the place and text is written all over the screen as well. Luckily, the tutorial explains to you what all these menus mean, although its a bit of a headache trying to play this game where everything is all over the place. Had the interface been a little cleaner, Odin Quest would have been a better experience to play.

Odin Quest has a helpful tool called auto questing. This is really helpful because your character will automatically walk to your chosen destination and you dont have to navigate your way through the game map itself. The maps in Odin Quest are quite large so life becomes an easier experience when you use the helpful auto questing mode.

Combat in Odin Quest is a fairly simple process too. Your characters will know what enemies to kill and will start automatically attacking them until they are all defeated. I remember I had to defeat a whole gang full of Ice Giants and my character automatically started hacking away killing them all without me even pressing a single button. Some of the Ice Giants tried to fight back, although they were too slow to react to my characters fast actions. You can also obtain a pet in Odin Quest too. Pets are great companions to have because they will aid you in combat.

The presentation in Odin Quest is commendable. I did not mind the bright 2D graphics that this game provides, although most other 2012 browser based games look a lot more modern. With that being said, Odin Quest still looks better than the majority of free to play video games out there at the moment. Another great thing that Odin Quest includes is a great soundtrack. Music always adds some much needed atmosphere into video games and it truly adds to the tone of the game. Not to mention, the overall character and level design in heavily inspired by other MMRPG games out in the market today.

The combination of the games auto questing and fast nature of the combat system means Odin Quest is an MMORPG game that is best suited for casual gamers. Although I liked the fast pace that this game provides, everything seemed to go too fast and it did not feel like I had actually accomplished anything. Characters will often move and attack on their own and before you know it, youve already reached level 10. This isnt necessarily a bad thing, although more hardcore MMORPG fans are better off playing another game where you can actually control your characters movements and actions.

All in all, I found Odin Quest to be a pretty enjoyable MMORPG video game. It may not be the most unique MMORPG game ever made, although I did like its fast style of gameplay. As I previously mentioned, this game is better suited for casual gamers as there is a lot of hand-holding that is involved in this game. Gamers that wish to play a game that adds a bit more strategy and combat to its gameplay should play other MMORPG games such as Shaiya or even Wizards 101 just to name a few.
