S4 League is a third-person shooter based in a futuristic anime world.
It gives you the impression that you are sat in an arcade playing the game, rather than at home on your PC.
The game is vibrant, with the colours literally jumping out at you. The controls are the same as you would find in an FPS, but you can play the tutorial section at the beginning if you wish to. The gameplay is fast and at will take you a few matches to get up to speed with those that
are used to it.
The fact that it is third-person rather than first
does not hinder it at all, In fact I think it helps with what they are trying to
accomplish with it. You only need to look at the way you can avoid bullets by
sliding to the left and right or back-flipping, you can even jump off a wall.
There are a couple of game modes, from the typical
Deathmatch to the fun Touch Down. Touch Down requires both teams to race to the
middle of the map with the aim of picking up the ball, once picked up you then
have to run it to your enemys base for a touchdown. There is also, for those
of you who love a challenge, Chaser Mode. This sets one person as the chaser
who has the task of hunting down and defeating all the other players in an
allotted time. Good fun for those of you who want a fun game to play with
friends.
As you play you will start to level up, in which
you can go from Rookie to Pro. As always you will earn experience and be able
to purchase new weapons and items to customise your character with. Some items
though, which can be frustrating, are banned from certain types of matches,
frustrating because when you are new to the game its not easily noticeable how
to make changes to your inventory or find out what weapons cant be equipped
for those games. The lobby can be somewhat confusing for new players and will
take a while to work out.
