Wargame 1942 is a solid browser-based strategy online game where you can immerse yourself in the eventful era of WWII and fight for the survival of all mankind. The setting takes place during the second World War and you are the best hope for obtaining a victory. Fight for what is rightfully yours and eliminate what stands in your way. Use your army to fight against thousands of different players or use your diplomatic skills to influence the world politics and to write yourself into the history books.
Unlike other video games from the same genre, there are no customization options to speak of as the game starts off immediately with a mandatory tutorial for you to go through. This seems a bit odd for a game based on World War II not to have any customization options as it would have been nice if the game allowed you to choose which country you wanted to play as.
Wargame 1942 loaded quicker than some other browser based video game Ive played over the last month so people who own older computers will be happy to know they can play the game without any hassles.
The first thing I noticed about the game is that there is a huge chat box located at the bottom of the screen. Its good to know this is easily located so beginners can easily ask questions to fellow gamers if they need any help for playing the game. Some free to play video games have poorly designed interfaces that its hard to navigate where the help tab is. The interface in Wargame 1942 is clean and user-friendly which a good thing for beginners.
Wargame 1942 has some impressive looking 3D graphics for a free to play browser based video game. The game came out in 2012 and its a good thing Wargame 1942 actually saw the light of day in the first place since it was originally meant to be out 6 years ago in 2006.
I have to say, the gameplay in Wargame 1942 is one of the slowest paced games Ive ever played. Ive been playing games since 1994 when I fell in love playing Street Fighter II. Since that time, I played thousands of games across many different platforms and Wargame 1942 has to be the slowest one Ive ever encountered during my lifetime.
This is because buildings take a very long time to be constructed. Constructing buildings for your base is common in the MMORTS genre, although it takes hours for any building to be completed in this game. This type of lengthy process is certainly not for casual gamers so if you want to play a game for short amount of time, Wargame 1942 certainly isnt the title you should be seeking. To makes the process even longer, you are only able to construct a certain amount of buildings at one time as well. Its not as if I can start constructing my base all at once and then come back a day later to see them all completed. No, you have to plan to construct some buildings, come back and then try and build the rest.
It can take days for you to actually construct your base to and start building up your army to fight. The payoff for this isnt even worth it since you dont actually get to witness any action in this game which is a disappointment. One would think waiting all that time to build your army youd be rewarded by witnessing an awesome battle unfold before your eyes. To add more insult to injury, you dont even have any control of battles either. Its just a point-and-click affair where you send your troops to attack or steal resources from enemy bases. It would have been nice to actually see the action happening considering how impressive the 3D graphics are.
Wargame 1942 isnt a bad game, but I feel most gamers will be bored of it due to its agonizingly slow pace. You could say most MMORTS games start off a little slow when you are beginning to contruct your army but Wargame 1942 takes this to a whole new level. If you are a very patient gamer and love playing MMORTS games, there is some fun to be had in Wargame 1942. For everyone else, its best to avoid this game as its as exciting as watching paint dry.
