That is if you manage to get through the extensive character creation screen at the beginning. As first impressions go, its actually quite impressive. New players are treated well in the early stages with good quests and fluidity in the tutorials. The starting area does a great job of teaching you the basics and allowing you to familiarise yourself with the MMO genre. Right from the beginning you will realise that the combat system is just like any other MMO and although serves its purpose, there is nothing different that other games like World of Warcraft dont offer. That being said it does its job and is fluid. Quests are basic and again are what you would expect. You will mainly have quests where you have to go and kill creatures to gain an item or simply to lower their numbers. The early quests are simply there to teach you the basics and again they do as they plan. Once you leave the starting area and “ascend” you can begin to have more fun. As is very popular with the MMO genre you can craft items. Learning how to craft items will become very useful as you progress, particularly once you discover you can set up a personal store to sell your items whenever you want to and wherever you happen to be at the time - a nice touch and a quick way to get rewarded for your grinding. That leaves us with the grinding. There is a lot of grinding and at times can be a little heavy. However, for those players that love that aspect and enjoy the MMO genre it wont be too much of a shock and will see it as a mere expectation. There is the chance of pvp later on, which unfortunately can become a little laggy at times. That being said, for a free-to-play game, Aion Online is such a beautiful and rich game that a little lag doesnt really harm its credentials at all. There is in later game also the ability to fly which really helps this game come into its own and move away from the generic MMOs out there. For those of you that really enjoy your MMOs Aion Online will be another game of which you will certainly enjoy spending some time playing, particularly enjoying not having to subscribe. For those that are new to the genre and are looking for a game to start off in, Aion Online is beautifully designed and has all the ingredients that you will see in any other MMO.
