Lord of Ages
Description: Lord of Ages Lord of Ages is a free persistent browser based warfare game. In a middle ages setting, Lord of Ages lets you build your empire through conquering the wilderness and castles of others. Beat the rivals, build allies and be the best lord possible. You will rule your own empire. Instructions: Welcome, my Lord! You decide what to build, what battles to wage at your own pace in Lord of Ages. No installation and FREE forever. Lord of Ages is a traditional free-to-play browser-based RTS game that is available online. As with most other games of the same genre, before you get into the swing of things, you must first create your onscreen avatar. It is set in the Middle Ages where you take control of a “Lord”. It’s in the best interest of the player to take control of your “Lord” and make them the most powerful “Lord” in the kingdom. Much like every other RTS game, everything starts off slowly and you are left with only the very basics to play with. You start off without even having any citizens living in your city. One of the first mandatory tasks you will have to do in the game is to build a cottage so people can actually live in your city. From then on, the tutorial teaches you all about the basics of playing Lord of Ages. It’s a pretty lengthy process that you will have to undertake to get the hang of things in Lord of Ages. Before you can go out and fight, you have to follow the quests. Most of the quests you will have to do at the start of the game are tediously construct multiple buildings at one time so your city can flourish. It’s a common feature seen in most RTS games, but it’s not something that non-RTS fans love to do all the time. Not only do you have to construct the building as well but in order to increase production, you have to “level-up” buildings too. It’s a time-consuming process that I find will put off certain gamers looking for more spontaneous type of enjoyment in their games. Although the main bulk of gameplay is following the quests, the game makes it very clear what your next objective is. Some games leave you out in the cold on what you should do next which isn’t very helpful if you’re a beginner to the RTS genre. Although the main goal in Lord of Ages is to build a powerful city, you can also expand into the rest of the surrounding areas and build multiple cities. Expanding your empire is the main goal and the more cities you build, the more you will be feared among your fellow players. You don’t have to do all of this on your own thankfully. Lord of Ages allows you to create an alliance and join other people’s alliances too. There are a number of other players playing Lord of Ages online so it pays for you to become friends with at least a few of them. You are unlikely to become the most powerful player in the game all on your own. If you become a renegade enemy, most of the players are most likely going to team up on you can destroy and cities and steal all of your resources leaving you with absolutely nothing. One thing that is disappointing about the game is that there’s no audio. It gets a bit boring after a few hours playing the game in utter silence. Although since Lord of Ages is available to play on your computer, you always have the option of playing your own music in the background. Still, some sort of soundtrack in Lord of Ages would have been nice. Graphically, Lord of Ages looks not too dissimilar to that of EA Games’ Age of Empires. It has the same style of 3D graphics and realistic looking buildings. With the game being set in the Middle Ages, expect to see old-fashioned style of buildings and lots of flat open green areas. It may not be the prettiest game out there but the graphics are decent enough that any computer shouldn’t have a hard time in playing. Lord of Ages is a traditional RTS game that requires hours of your free time. Building your city and then your army is a very lengthy process that could take up to a week or more. It’s not the type of game where you can expect to have fun playing in one day. Thankfully, even when you are not playing the game, resources are still collected so you don’t have to have your computer on 24/7. All in all, it’s a game that RTS fans are going to love. It’s also free-to-play so almost anyone will be able to give this game a try.
